Ducati presents the Panigale V4 SP2: "The Ultimate Racetrack Machine"
Ducati introduced the new Panigale V4 SP2 to enthusiasts in the ninth and final part of the Ducati World Première 2022 web series: a special motorbike in a numbered series, aimed to fully experience the enthusiasm for riding on the track, further raising the performance of the Panigale V4.
The Ducati Panigale family is the pinnacle of the continual transfer of information and technology from the world of racing to production bikes, and each new iteration, like the Ducati Corse prototypes, continues to evolve year after year. The "SP2" is the model that Ducati uses to bring the sportiness of the Panigale V4 to its pinnacle. The 2022 version of the Panigale V4 represents the most significant evolutionary step since its inception, with improvements in every aspect: aerodynamics, ergonomics, engine, chassis, and electronics.
The Panigale V4 SP2 is distinguished by its equipment, which includes all of the enhancements made by Ducati engineers on the Panigale V4 2022 to make the most powerful Panigale ever.
The "SP2" version sports a more powerful braking system, lightweight carbon rims, WorldSBK-style final drive and dry clutch, racing footpegs, and a number of carbon components. The bike also comes with a track-specific equipment that comprises billet aluminium caps for removing the rear-view mirrors*, a kit for removing the licence plate holder*, and an open carbon clutch cover*.
The outcome is "The Ultimate Racetrack Machine," a unique model designed for non-professional riders who want to participate in track days and break their own records.
The "Winter Test" paint on the Panigale V4 SP2 contrasts the matt black of the fairings with the matt carbon finish of the rims and wings, as well as the bright red accents and brilliance of the exposed brushed aluminium tank. The Italian flag, which also appears on the official Panigale V4 R SBK, is adorning the wings with a double profile design. The Ducati Corse emblem is present in the area of the new hot air extractors on the lower portion of the fairing, as well as a red detail bearing the bike's name, which is also present on the black saddle in double material. Each model is distinguished by the steering head, which is machined from solid and displays the motorcycle's progressive number.
The 1,103 cc Desmosedici Stradale engine, evolved from MotoGP, lies at the heart of the Panigale V4 SP2: a V4 with a counter-rotating crankshaft that produces a lot of torque at low revs and is capable of expressing the bike's racing soul on the track. The Desmosedici Stradale has been enhanced for 2022 with the addition of dedicated technological parts that have allowed for increased power and improved throttle response.
The Euro 5 version engine produces 215.5 horsepower at 13,000 rpm, a power gain of 1.5 hp over the Panigale V4 2021, which rises to 2.5 hp beyond the maximum power peak at 14,500 rpm** thanks to these interventions and a new specific programming.
Ducati created dedicated gear-by-gear torque curves and four separate Power Modes (Full, High, Medium, Low) to fully exploit the engine's capability. Full and Low configurations are brand new, while High and Medium configurations employ a novel strategy.
The new complete titanium Ducati Performance racing exhaust, developed in partnership with Akrapovi and available as an accessory, can boost the performance of the Desmosedici Stradale when utilised on the track.
This exhaust features high silencers alongside the tail and has been developed to boost speed while reducing noise, allowing anyone to race with a complete racing exhaust even on circuits with the strictest noise limitations. The Panigale V4 SP2's dry weight is reduced by 5 kg thanks to this exhaust, bringing it down to only 168 kg. The Akrapovi exhaust also ensures a 12.5 hp improvement in power, bringing the maximum value to 228 horsepower, and a 131 lb-ft increase in torque.
The Panigale V4's "SP2" variant has a stronger resemblance to the bikes that compete in the Superbike World Championship. In fact, this bike combines the lighter final drive with 520 chain and the STM-EVO SBK dry clutch to the more "track-oriented" gearbox already seen on the Panigale V4 2022. In comparison to the Panigale V4 S's oil bath clutch, this clutch provides a more effective anti-hopping function in extreme track use and more fluidity in all stages of "off throttle." The STM-EVO SBK clutch also allows you to tailor the "mechanical" engine brake setting by selecting a different secondary spring from the Ducati Performance accessories catalogue.
